Four Years Long ... and Counting

While it's hard to top last year's anniversary trip to Belize, we decided to celebrate our four years in Fredericksburg, TX where the wine and Bavarian beer runneth over.  We stayed at a sweet B&B called River Road Ranch Resort where we were affectionately greeted by the animals that take residence at this working ranch.  The suites were individual buildings swathed in old vintage decor - each with a whirlpool and wood burning fireplace.  So sweet and so romantic - they even provide ingredients for S'mores.

We snapped this picture just as the goats were losing interest in us since we had no goodies to entice them.  Oh well, at least we had this moment together.

After our morning rendezvous with the furry ones, we made our way to the quaint little downtown area full of shops, food and people.  We meandered in and out of eclectic stores and kept an eye out for places we'd perhaps like to lunch at.  Following our ears to the live music, we settled on a restaurant with outdoor seating where we could enjoy the sunshine (a rarity for us Seattleites - especially in December).  That Reuben sandwich never tasted so good.

With food in our bellies, we were ready for some wine tasting (actually when are we not?).  Grape Creek Vineyards came highly recommended and the place did not disappoint.  The vineyard was so beautiful.  We could stayed there the entire time sipping their Riesling however, there was more wine to be tasted so we made our way to Hilmy Cellars.  Seriously, how cute is their tasting menu?

There we made friends with someone who is friends with the owners.  He was able to sneak us a taste of a wine not on the menu because it wasn't ready to be bottled.  Yes, we drank it from the metal silo (sure, that's the technical term) where it's still in the process of fermenting.  It was very tasty.

The next day we frolicked around the Enchanted Rock state park and endeavored their almost one mile hike with at least a 400 ft vertical climb.  Strenuous indeed.  We witnessed a couple of gals doing it in heels, not well though.  However, it was amusing nonetheless - so kudos.  It was fun to race Ben to the top and the view from up there was not too shabby.  While it was an overcast day (still in the 70's though), we snapped a few decent shots.

Hopefully for our five year anniversary we will make it out of Texas.
